I am deciding which app server would be best for my project. We need to use Message Driven Beans (MDBs) to receive and send MQSeries v5.2 messages. Our app server will run on Sun Solaris and the MQSeries server will be on a remote Sun Solaris server. We also need to use JDBC on the appserver to connect to Sybase so this may affect our choice of appserver.
1) Should I choose Weblogic6.1 or Websphere4.0 for MDBs and JMS connectivity to MQSeries?
2) Can I configure MQJMS (this is the ma88 download from the ibm website right?) as my JMS provider on whichever app server we choose?
Thanks a lot for your help.

hi ,
Before deciding which appaserver u wish to choose . lemme ask you some questions like do you wish to go for a best of the breed or multi vendor solution . whats your firms move with respect to the integration market. Right now i am using weblogic 6.1 and mqseries jms and we are using MDBS in weblogic 6.1 for getting messages in async manner from mqseries and it works fine . But then weblogic 6.1 uses JCA architecture to connect to mqseries which is still non final .But then websphere provides tighter and smooth integration with mqseries as it comes from the same house .

Murugan,
Just curious...
Why are you using MQ/JMS also when WebLogic6.1 itself provides JMS?
What I mean is, why buy two products WL and MQ when you can do your
work with just WL? Is it because you had an old application running
on MQ/JMS?

Balaji. |

Murugan,
Thanks, you've told me what i needed to know - that JMS on Weblogic 6.1 works fine with MQSeries. We needed to know if WL6.1 was compatible with MQSeries because we prefer to use WL6 as it is best of breed but we would use WS if it was absolutely necessary.
Yes, we are using MQSeries to communicate with systems outside of our control, and we have no leverage to ask them to change to WL JMS instead. So MQJMS is our only answer.
Is there anything I should watch out for when setting up MQJMS?
Thanks,
Ivar

hi ivar ,
thanks for your reply . As i have already told u that weblogic provides built in support for foriegn jms providers . But then use with caution as weblogic uses jca feature to talk to mqseries . In weblogic 7.0 they have replaced this with whats called message bridges but then theres not much change in it . so please do a feasibility study on whether do you need to use the facility provided in weblogic 6.1 to have a scalable solution . why am i presing for this is that WEBLOGIC HAS IMPLEMENTED THE NON FINAL JCA FEATURE . so use with caution . Or else you can have another way to achieve asynchronous messaging from mqseries using weblogic . Have a normal Asynchronous message Listener for mqseries jms and have either a weblogic startup class or weblogic time triggered class to trigger the message listsener which will receive messages asynchronously . But here the transaction capability is to be handle in the listener API as MQSERIES JMS updated software contains JDBC/JTA support . So let me know whether this helps you
cheers,
Murugan |
