Hi,
I'm an experienced guy with 8 years of MQ and about 4.5 years of WBIMB/MQSI experience. I'm going to be allowed to go to one conference.
Is the Websphere Technical Conference in Dusseldorf (http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/services/learning/ites.wss/xx/en?pageType=page&c=a0006139) worth attending or would that be too basic? Is this the same as the conference that used to be called Transaction and Messaging?
FYI, I'm working as a Middleware Consultant and responsible for architecting Middleware solutions. Challenges for the next year include product upversioning (we're already on WMQ 5.3 and WBIMB 5), introduction of WebServices and BPM). I'm based in the UK, so Europe ideally but not essential.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
TIA,
Kulbir. |

I couldn't get the actual sessions to come up for this conference. However, I don't think it is the same as the T&M Conference. I did attend the T&M conference last month in Orlando. I thought that it was pretty good if you were new to WMQ or if you hadn't been to the conference in a while. Most of the presenters were from the Hursley development lab and they were always dropping insights into the product that made it worthwhile.
I will also say that somebody got up at the general session and complained that IBM has too many conferences that have a large amount of overlap. |

Be careful - some IBM websphere conferences are very light on MQ topics.
Only the classic T&M can be relied upon if you really want a load of MQ stuff. This used to run in Europe and US but now seems to be only in the US. |

I have been to these conferences in Europe. Eg - the IBM Software Symposium. They are good events with great variety but they tend to disappoint those looking for in-depth MQ information from Hursley.
ONLY the T&M has a full and deep range of MQ related topics that would be of use to someone already experienced in MQ. This is the only conference linked to on the IBM MQSeries home page.
Other conferences will have introductory topics on MQ and are good for those looking at strategy or architectures or for newbies to MQ. In any case going to the US is often less expensive, but of course you have just missed the conference for this year. |

This year's Dusseldorf conference has a substantial MQ and Broker content, along with other products such as WAS. The MQ/Broker material is only slightly reduced from the US event (and for some products this might be the first opportunity to talk about certain updates). |

Hopefully IBM have learned from the feedback at previous European events about the lack of MQ/CICS sessions and the high cost of the event compared to the US ones! |
