While installing CSD 9 on WIN2003 server I have got an install error:

Insufficient license units.

The purchased processor allowance (2) is less than the number of processors (6) in this machine.

Ensure sufficient license units have been purchased and use the MQ setmqcap command to set the purchased processor allowance for this installation. Refer to the Quick Beginnings book for more information.

Anyway, have any of you seen it before ???
Setting mq capacity to 6 when my machine has only 2 processors is a bit silly...
Any thoughts ???

Eva

When you open up Task Manager and go to the performance tab, how many CPU graphs are displayed?

My private PC is showing 2 tabs, even though I have only one P4 in it. But it has HT. So if I would go and install MQ on it, would I need a 1CPU or a 2 CPU license? 1 Physical processor, but Windows thinks it is 2 Processors. Would MQ moan about it?

cheers

Sebastian

I can see 4 tabs, which means I have 2 correct ???
Where's the 6 coming from ??? If it quoted 8 I could maybe find some rational explanation ... but 6 ...
I have rebooted the machine and retried CSD 9, had to rename few .dll as they refused to go away It looks OK. MQ did not complain about insufficient license units. I'm still puzzeled though...

So I'm building this new server with 2 hyperthreaded processors...and wouldn't you know... MQ throws an error on csd 8 (not 9) install and wants to have capacity set to six,WBIMB wants to get set to 6 as well...
Well I've got frustrated and put a sup call to IBM. Come to find out it's a known issue. It seems, that as long as u up it to what it wants it's happy. I have also gotten a fix to try for WBIMB with the above symptoms. Here it goes :
"There is a known issue with the mqsisetcapacity command with multiprocessor systems. You can safely ignore this warning. However, if you want to correct it, then do the following:
1. Save the current mqsicap.inf file from the <WBI-MB>\config directory and remove it
2. Run the mqsidisplaycapacity command and check the contents of mqsicap.inf file (at this point it should be created but empty)
3. Run the mqsisetcapacity command (with the correct number of processors). "

Do you have hyperthreaded processors?

yep, the fix refers to the machines with hyperthreaded processors, Apparently this has been a known issue for some time...so far everything I've touched with win 2003 hyperthreaded server has been acting up...

Hyperthreading performance increase is marginal plus there is a huge security hole in hyperthreading that intel and microsoft are trying to keep under the covers. This security vulnerability allows one thread or process to look at the register values of another one in its virtual context. Hyperthreading also had been shown to actually slow down applications with hign number of system calls (mq certainly qualifies). You can go to BIOS and just disable it. That would be my advice to you.
