So we had a qmgr get damaged during some HACMP testing (AIX, MQ5.3 CSD 05).
And so we ran the HACMP script to delete the qmgr, and we can see that it got as far as actually running dltmqm.
But it's been running that for about half an hour now...
We're going to kill and try doing it manually.
Is there a procedure we can follow if dltmqm doesn't work? Is it sufficient to delete the qmgr directories, clean up any shm, and hand edit mqs.ini? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general.

It's iSeries (aka AS/400)
Mainframe Queuemangers can only be 4 characters, this one is called KAREN... _________________ Michael

Ah, yes. The best of z/OS and AIX all mingled together.
still deep in it. Fun with rebooting lpars and finding that nothing is configured to start up automatically... including needed mount points! _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

So you remove the QM from the HA setup on both (or more nodes) and
now the filesystems do not mount properly?
no wonder dltmqm does not work
since there is no 'registry' magic like on windows, you should be able to delete the directories manually and edit the ini files....
do take a backup... even though the Qmr is damaged, you don't want to get into a deeper mess... _________________ Michael

That probably would have been a good idea first.

No, they're not set up to mount automatically at startup. We rebooted the LPAR.

It appeared, actually, to have been a semaphore problem.

Yeah. That AS/400 article seemed to indicate that that *would* work. But I'm concerned about things like the very poorly documented vpd.properties file that WAS uses to keep track of what is installed. And the fact that WAS has "How to delete stuff manually" directions, and MQ doesn't.

I won't say we've reached bottom yet. Cause, you know, then the floor breaks... _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Doing what I should have done first icon_redface.gif and searching IBM support... |
Or even read the manuals.
Try Appendix D of the System Administration Guide. It's called Stopping and Removing Queue Managers Manually.
