I'm trying to delete users from my WF 3.5 runtime, but many can't be deleted because they have work items assigned to them. What is the most appropriate way to remove these users? I had thought of removing them from all roles so that they no longer receive work items and when all of the current items have been handled then remove the user, but that's going to take a while. |

Your method will work... or you could transfer the work to another user first, then delete the user if you cant afford to wait. _________________ John McDonald

Hi,
you might want to look at the Substitute Person Tool described in chapter 3 of the Administration Guide to make your task easier. |

Probably the most important thing to remember is that if you delete a user with open work items then you may not be able to redirect those workitems afterwards
Also if an automatic routing is carried out and it is expected that the workitem goes to a user you have deleted then there will be an error and the routing will be routed to nobody thus causing problems with access
Allow a time period prior to removing the user to ensure all work items have been re routed.
Would suggest you set the user as absent for a couple of weeks and have their substitute take control of all work items associated with the user to be deleted then once the worklists are cleared and no more workitems are being routed you can delete the user |

Can you even delete the user if a workitem is in his list? I thought it was not possible. _________________ -Ratan |

You are right, it can not be done if the user is associated with any other objects (workitems, notifications, PA, etc) _________________ John McDonald
