HI MQ community

I've experiencing some problems to restar a Qmgr on Unix HP.

This is a weird history..., but...

1) The Qmgr did not working properly. The Filesystem was full.
2) Sundely the Qmgr was down.
3) I've made a backup of /var/mqm/errors and /var/mqm/qmgrs/QMgrname/errors
4) I've deleted the errors logs (FDC and amqerrorlog)
5) Sundely... the ghost (I think this ghost has a human hands) restarted the Qmgr
6) for 1 hr the Qmgrs was on Restarting status.
7) The amq process were killed in order to stop the process.
Now the Qmgr is worse.... now I could'nt restart it... Below is the last FDC file.

9) BTW... Does Somebody knows if the FDC files are errorlog filer are needed to restart the Qmgr....I know that this is false.. but ... Who knows the true?!

Any ideas?

My last try was...

I've retruned the backup files (errors files) to original source.. but on BINARY format... Does somebody knows if the Binary or ASCII format has anything to do with this?

No the MQManager doesn't need the *.FDC logs to start. I am sure of this.

But I think it does need the /var/mqm/error/AMQERR0*.LOG's and /var/mqm/qmgrs/QMGR/errors/AMQERR0*.LOG's to restart. I could be wrong.

Further, one should, as a general rule, never tamper with the files in /var/mqm/log/QMGR/active except to archive them if you are using Linear Logging.

The AMQERR*.LOG files are NOT needed to start the qmgr. If you haven't rebooted your machine, I'd give that a try to see if it frees up any resources that might be locked. I'd also suggest that you double-check your filesystem to make sure it isn't full again.

What about the @system/AMQERR0*.LOG's?

Are you sure you didn't clear out /var/mqm/log as well. If you did, I hope you've got a good back-up of your QM, because you're going to need it.

Cheers,

If it says LOG not available, you should be checking
/var/mqm/log/<QMGRNAME>/active and see if the log files are available. Not the error logs

These aren't needed to start the qmgr either.

Indeed.

@bower
I wasn't real sure about the /var/mqm/errors and /var/mqm/qmgrs/QMGR/errors/AMQERR0*.LOG file.

I once witnessed the AMQERR0*.LOG file being created dynamically in /var/mqm/errors when I discovered that the acl's were wrong for that filesystem. I noticed that mqm didn't have permission to write to /var/mqm/errors and there were no AMQERR0*.LOG's there so I changed the acl's and killed an amqrsta process (on a dev box). Poof AMQEER01.LOG was created along with a couple .FDC files. I thought the @system/AMQERR0*.LOG's were a template. Wrong again I guess.

Anyway I digress.

@GEMO, if you did anything to the /var/mqm/log/QMGR/active files you will need to restore them before you can restart the MQManager.

Looking forward, in future installations of WMQ Server you may want to explore the possibilities of creating separate filesystems for;

/usr/mqm
/var/mqm
/var/mqm/errors
/var/mqm/log
