I do have new problems now....

i logged in as mqm and when i hit id, it displays

uid=506(mqm) gid=506(mqm) groups=506(mqm),0(root)

this indicates that mqm id is a member of mqm grp

i have set the path ...

when i execute the command like dspmq or strmqm...

it gives as

WebSphere MQ was unable to open a message catalog to display an error message
for message id hexadecimal %6, with inserts %1, %2, %3, %4, and %5.
AMQ7024
WebSphere MQ was unable to open a message catalog to display an error message
for message id hexadecimal %6, with inserts %1, %2, %3, %4, and %5.
AMQ5613

don't know y this error is displayed....what could be wrong....

if I change the ownership of the /opt/mqm and /var/mqm to root then it is working....

any ideas???

Check the acl's for /opt/mqm/lib.

Either change the ownership to mqm:mqm or chmod them to 755.

Actually IMHO everything under /opt and /usr from mqm down should be owned by mqm:mqm with rwxr_xr_x.

This I don't think is true. Every binary has it's own set of permissions.

OK, can you be more specific in regards to what files under mqm should be more restricted?

On a HP box for some of the files in /opt/mqm/bin I have the following.

Code:

-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          49152 Aug  1  2002 rcrmqobj_nd
-r-xr-xr-x   1 mqm        mqm           2627 Oct 10  2000 reset_iconv_table
-r-xr-x---   1 mqm        mqm           8308 Oct  4  2000 restrictedmode_migrateQM
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 rsvmqtrn -> /opt/mqm/bin/rsvmqtrn_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          36864 Aug  1  2002 rsvmqtrn_nd
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 runmqchi -> /opt/mqm/bin/runmqchi_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          36864 Aug  1  2002 runmqchi_nd
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 runmqchl -> /opt/mqm/bin/runmqchl_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          28672 Aug  1  2002 runmqchl_nd
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 runmqdlq -> /opt/mqm/bin/runmqdlq_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm         126976 Aug  1  2002 runmqdlq_nd
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 runmqlsr -> /opt/mqm/bin/runmqlsr_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          28672 Aug  1  2002 runmqlsr_nd
-r-sr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          28672 Aug  1  2002 runmqsc
-rwsr-s---   1 mqm        mqm          36864 Aug  1  2002 runmqtmc
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root       root            24 Dec 29  2001 runmqtrm -> /opt/mqm/bin/runmqtrm_nd

So I don't set the permissions on these files myself but let the installer do it for me. Before installing I create /opt/mqm (or /usr/mqm) and /var/mqm and chown those directories to be owned by mqm:mqm

To properly display message descriptions from the message catalog, the appropriate NLSPATH & LANG variables must be set.

Review the section on National language considerations by clicking here

I have gone through it already. Since it says

Messages in U.S. English are always available. If you require messages in a
different language, ensure that:
1. You install the appropriate message catalog (see “WebSphere MQ components”
on page 5).
2. Your NLSPATH environment variable includes the appropriate directory. For
example, to select messages in German use the following:
export LANG=de
export NLSPATH=/usr/share/locale/%L/LC_MESSAGES/%N

since it says incase if v want to change...so this means it automatically does right???

I guess you're right, I was looking in the /usr/mqm/lib directory. In bin it looks like root creates all those links with rwxrwxrwx when MQ is installed tthough it probably wouldn't hurt if they were changed to rwxr_xr_x along with the targets.

Check your settings.

If the variables are not set correctly, then set them. Incorrect settings, of these variables, are one of the causes for the message catalog error.
