We have upgraded to WBIMB v5.04. We will be using CVS on a UNIX server for our versioning tool. While testing this, it seems that multiple people can check out a project without getting an error saying that someone else has the project checked out. It also seems that if multiple people have the same project checked out, the first person to check in their changes is the only one who can do so. Are these assumptions correct? Is there a way for us to get CVS to let you know someone else has a project checked out?

CVS stands for "Concurrent Versioning System".

That means that it is designed for CONCURRENT development, not single developer locks.

The CVS documentation has tons of discussion about the changed philosophy that this provides.

This is not a WMQI question.

Jeff, that kinda explains it when you put it like that. We were looking for the functionality that WMQI had built in to prevent DeveloperA from changing a flow while DeveloperB had it, and to insure DeveloperB put it back before they could do anything else with it. The Check In Check Out did it for us in 2.1.

Not built into WB-IMB 5.0 I guess.

I gotta read "Working in the Team Environment" in the ToolKit's Help.

There's a bunch of version control tools that DO still implement single developer locks. Merant's PVCS (are they still Merant?) for example.

But, of course, CVS is *free*.
