Fellow MQ'ers,
For a WMQ hardware cluster on the WIN2000 and UNIX platforms, is it possible to 'load balance' the workload among the number of servers that is defined in the hardware cluster?
I have researched the WMQ Systems Administration Guide and it does not mention this configuration at all. I know that hardware clustering may be used to fail from one server to another server within the cluster.
Thanks everyone! |

If you use active active configuration, then using WMQ clustering, you can also achieve load balancing |

Vennela,
Thanks for your response.
To clarify, hardware clustering on the WIN2000 or UNIX platforms does not provide the 'load balancing' capability within itself. Correct?
Thanks again. |

I don't know anything about Windows, but on Unix platforms, use OS clustering for failover capabilities and WebSphere MQ clustering for load balancing. |

MQclustering load balancing only works between queue managers.
It won't load balance MQ client connections over two queue managers. |

I was about to implement a solution using active/active for Microsoft Clustering, but spotted on the developers machine in the on-line help file that MTS is not supported if using active/active.
Looking at the on-line help installed on my machine there is no mention that active / active is not supported when using MTS or COM+
If I look at the source of the help page mine does look as though it may be a little more uptodate.
Both machines are running MQ5.3 CSD07!!
Does anybody have any ideas? what does your online help file say for mscs active/active?
Also has anybody any experience of actually using active / active when MTS is used?
Thanks in advance |

We've never disagreed that clustering doesn't provide client connection load balancing.
We've just disagreed when you said that meant "you can't use clusters with clients" or "clients can't take advantage of clustering". _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
