I had a question that someone here might be able to answer...

Can the AMQCRSTA process be run under Windows XP Pro? We are currently attempting to do load testing of our WMQ infrastructure using a Loderunner type tool and are attempting to simulate approximately 2000 channel pairs. We are running WMQ 5.3 Server with CSD05 on a Windows XP Pro workstation connecting to a queue manager on an AIX concentrator with WMQ 5.3 CSD05. We had tried to use RUNMQLSR but this seems to limit the number of concurrent connections on the workstation to 1200. If it is possible to run AMQCRSTA on WinXP, how might we do so? Thanks.

amqcrsta is for UNIX platforms only.
I do not see any reason why runmqlsr should limit the number of connctions to 1200.
What error do you get when you reach that number of clients?
Have you set MaxChannels to 2000?

I will try that thanks. I wasn't aware of that setting on the QM itself. We did not get an error message specifically as we were simply informed by a vendor we were working with that there was a 1200 concurrent connection limit if using runmqlsr. So, if using the MaxChannel option, there is no logical limit to the maximum number of connections to a queue manager?

Ths O/S and the hardware are the limiting factor, not MQ, as long as you set the QM properties high enough.

The Performance Support Pack for Windows has test cases with many thousands of connections at the same time.

Well we did set the MaxChannel and MaxActiveChannel setting on the QM on the workstation, but we are definately encountering problems when we try to start more than 100 connections. We noticed that there are two runmqchl.exe processes spawned for each channel connection and this seems to be bogging down the box and preventing new connections from being made. We are running runmqlsr on the WS. Is there a threaded listner for the XP workstation that we could try? Any suggestions for starting several hundred connections at once?

100 seems awfully suspicious since this is the default.

Did you restart the QM to pick up the changes?

Regardless, 2 runmqlsr processes for every channel seems wrong.

The threaded listener is runmqlsr, and RCVR channels always run as threads in amqrmppa.
runmqchl is the SDR channel process, and to get SDR channels to run as threads in amqrmppa, set MCATYPE(THREAD) in the SDR channel def.

We have a pair of sender and receiver channels and trying to start 150 pairs. I tried the MCATYPE(THREAD) in the sdr channel definition but we still see the 150 runmqchl processes running in taskmgr. Is there anything else we might try?
