Hi,

I have a program that sends to a queue. The problem is, it doesn't work all the time? I get an error trying to open the queue sometimes.
mqseries 5.2.1 win2k

Thanks!

During that error is the QMGR running?
MQ 5.2 is out of support so you should upgrade

I'm honestly not sure, but it's very possible, could that have caused it?

I'm sorry for the hundred questions... But why would this cause an error?

If the queue manager is down, you will get return code 2058.

You can't connect to a queue manager that is not running.

Why wouldn't this cause an error?

If Queue Manager was down would he not get 2059? 2058 indicates a naming error?

Does it definitely come from an MQOPEN call, or an MQCONN call?

Is your program in VB by any chance...

It looks like a MQCONN call and yes it is VB. <Insert embarrassed smiley here.> I'm not a big VB guy in fact I despise it. We have no time to redo it in C# though, so I'm stuck with this for a while.

Thanks in advance!

Is there an *.FDC file to go with the error message in the log? If so, post the top part of it here.

No, but intermittent 2058's or occasional traps have been known if you have coded something like
Dim x as String
x = "QMGR"
MQCONN(X, ...)
make sure it is Dim x as String * 48

As to the fdc - do you get that every time you see the 2058, if so its a different problem. Whats the call stack (the first section below the header block, NOT the trace bit)
