Hello everyone. I am an IT Professional with about 9 yrs of experience. I have worked on Mainframes and client/server environments. I have a backgorund in Oracle 7/8i/9i, SQL, PL/SQL, IBM VisualAge Generator v3.1/4/4.5 (Currently known as IBM WebSphere Enterprise Developer)developing both legacy apps and web-based apps.
I want to move towards middleware and would like to learn MQSeries on my own. I would appreciate if anyone could pls point me to beginner resources and how to approach learning MQSeries. Currently I am inbetween contracts and would like to use this opportunuty to upgrade my skills.
Many thanks. |

Hi, I think I posted this question in the wrong forum, so I apologie if I look like I'm repeating my question here.
I was just wondering if there is an order to reading the MQ manuals at the IBM site, specifically for a complete MQSeries newbie. Do you start with a specific doc and then follow a straightforward direction with other manuals, or can you just jump in anywhere?
Thanks. |

Read the support pack document that Peter suggested above first.
After that it depends if you are a application developer, software administrator, or solution architect.
If you are an application developer, start with the application development guide (This is more how to then the reference). The reference will only really be useful when you are researching a problem or trying to use a specific feature. Then read the specific Using MQ manual for your development platform. (Java, C, C++, Cobol) Then read Intercommunication. Finally read the clients manual, PCF manual, and scripts(MQSC) manual. The other manuals only really come into play if you are doing very specific things.
If you are an solution architect then really you need to read just the primer, application development guide, and intercommunication guide.
The administator needs to know just about eveything. But the intercommunication manual and the administration guides should be priorities. Then the MQSC manual, and the platform specific manuals. I'd even suggest reading the programming guide. _________________ Patrick Goodhart
