When you try to upgrade MQ to a higher version, does it detect the earlier version and prompt to over write it?? Or how does this work.I dont want to lose the MQ objects already existing.
Thanks

I believe it detects earlier version of MQ installed on your box. You can always select the option specifying it to retain qmgr data before uninstalling the previous version of MQ.
You can use this supportpac to backup your object definition, just in case if something goes wrong ..

Does the installation path matters.
In 5.1 currently MQ is installed in C:\MQSeries.(This was installed by someone long time back)
I guess 5.3 by default prompts like C:/Programes/ibm.websphereMQ etc.
While i upgrade to 5.3 do i need to overlay on the existing path ?? So that the existing applications can use the same MQ objects??
Thanks

For an existing queue manager first find out where are your queue manager logs and data folders are located. You can install MQ on one drive( or folder) and still have data log folders on a different drive.
When installing the MQ 5.3, you can either specify the same path (C:\MQSeries) or any other path of your choice (C:\WMQ etc.) for application. When it ask for data/logs specify the old directories.
This way you can install MQ in new directory and still retain your old objects/logs. _________________ Kiran

One other issue I have found is, that if you are going to apply a csd after the upgrade, You will need to stop the queue manager again, for some reason the installer restarts MQ _________________ Jeff

I am using it for 5.1 Queue Mangers.
Note that the newest version of the MS03 sticks in the "NPMCLASS(NORMAL) +" parameter, which is new as of 5.3 CSD06. If you want to use an MS03 generated script on a QM prior to 5.3 CSD06, just delete the "NPMCLASS(NORMAL) +" and it will work fine. _________________ Peter Potkay

My requirement is to use Saveqmgr support pack on a QM in MQ5.1,CSD04 and save the qbjects.Later upgrade MQ to 5.3,CSD07 and use the earlier script to recreate the MQ objects on QM in MQ5.3.
Thanks

Actually,
The MS03 support pac works with all versions of MQ (1 - 5.3 CSD06).
The key I guess, if you're not running 5.3 is to specify it. Just issue the -v parm on the command.
-v 1 (1.x)/ 2 (version 2.x)/ v51 (version 5.1)/ v52 (version 5.2)/ v53 (version 5.3)
The saveqmgr -h displays help and shows all the parms available.
IE: saveqmgr -m QMGR_NAME -v 51 -f filename.txt
As for upgrading MQ should notice you have an existing version and keep all the existing definitions (and under the covers??) add the 5.3 parms like SSL, ect. |
