I am trying to 'copy' messages from one queue to another using the q support pac - and the copying works great. The problem is that the original messages have an 'expiry' set, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it. I can extend it using the -y switch, but I cannot set it to unlimited.

Anyone have any experience with this? or suggest another way to accomplish the 'copy and change expiry?'

Thanks

Hi,

If you are looking for a cheap but robust commercial MQ Tool that can do what you are looking for, then may I suggest you try out MQ Visual Edit.

For more information or to download a 30-day trial of MQ Visual Edit then go to:

Take a look at the IH03 (RFHUTIL) supportpac from IBM:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=203&uid=swg24000637&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

The utility can be used to copy messages between two queues, plus it allows for the overriding of the expiry value.

Roger, I already have MQVisual edit - and I must say, it is a VERY usefull tool. What I am looking for is something I can either trigger or cron from hp ux. I'll try IH03 and let you know.

Thanks for the responses

Did you try -1 as the value for -y. Although, it might take the '-' as the start of a new parameter.

IH03 is a GUI program, so it can't be triggered.

Cheers,

Actually IH03 includes some command line tools.. MQCapture grabs the messages from a queue then writes them to a delimited file, that's what i'm playing with now.

I am also going to try the -1 thing... will let you know.
