I understand that we can set the MaxChannels and MaxActiveChannels in the qm.ini file.
Here's my question: is there anyway I can query MQ, after the qmgr is started, on the value of the MaxChannels (just to make sure whatever value given in the qm.ini is taken by MQ when the qmgr is started)?
Thanks. |

To answer your question on a different note. Why do you need to do that. The change is imminent after a qmgr restart. I would say, easiest way to confirm that, if you need to(even though you dont need to) is to connect as many clients as the number you defined in qm.ini file without disconnecting. If you are able to, that would mean your qmgr did take in the new changed value from qm.ini.
Remember it may take 10times the time to write an app(if there is a way) and find this out, as opposed to starting as many instances of amqsputc.

Thanks, Kumar.
In my scenario there's a heavy usage of mq clients (several hundreds of devices connecting to a qmgr). It's been a standard routine to have (enough number of) those devices connect to the qmgr whenever the qmgrs needs to be shutdown/restarted due to maintenance work, just to make sure that MaxChannels is set as expected.
I know it's not really necessary to do that. But it's been done like that in the past and I couldn't convince people unless MQ provides a way to query that attribute. |

I am afraid, i dont have an answer rightaway. But you could check the MQAI chapters of the PCF manual to see if you can query any such attribute via your program.

There are no ways to programatically ask MQ what this value is, or pretty much any other value held in the ini file.
Are all the other Queue Manager properties in the ini file unimportant? Obviously they are, so do these people create hokey test examples to test every possible QM attribute? No. So why assume this one property setting would not be any more reliable than the other?
Look at it this way: If you found a bug in your code, fixed it, and then tested it for that bug, you wouldn't keep testing for that specific bug everytime you released the code because of other unrelated changes.
Fine, you guys got burned by not having this setting set high enough a long ago. And you figured out the solution. Really, there is no need to test it every time. Tell these "people" to let it go, and move on. _________________ Peter Potkay
