Hey Ben,

Looks like you have gone past this problem. It would be good if you let everybody here know what the problem was and how you fixed it.

BTW, for folks who want to configure workflow with oracle in a 3-tier setup, the installation guide for version 3.5 is *way far better* than the one for version 3.4.

It's working.
What a debacle.

The problem was that the system itself was a mess.
I finally talked our datacenter into letting me have root so I could go check things out myself.
As it turned out the MQSeries installation had been deleted! Such that /usr/mqm was empty! But everything else about MQSeries was there and 'appeared' fine. Nobody with the mqm id ever actually checked beyond a cursory inspection.

I reinstalled the mqseries filesets and updated them to the latest patch level.
Everything worked as expected.
Just goes to show that if want something done right you have to do it yourself.
