AMQ4757 is the bit about files being locked so the installation can't continue.

I’ll tell you want I have done, and then see if there’s anything left to suggest.
Websphere MQ 5.3 is installed on “relatively clean” Windows 2000 server machines at “F:\IBM\”.
There has not been any configuration (i.e. no queue managers, clusters, MQ user accounts) setup when I arrive.

• Stopped the Websphere MQ service (and set it to manual, then rebooted)
• Hidden the task bar icon
• Checked task manager -> processes for any thing amq* (there’s nothing as I’d expect)
• Ran Handle.exe and ListDlls.exe and searched for anything to do with IBM, and found nothing

On one server, I tried it around 8 times or so, without changing anything and it suddenly started installing and works fine. (?!)
But there’s another 2 servers in our testing phase, and I can’t get it working on those. After testing there’ll be a couple of dozen machines to get this on.

The log is 430 odd kb, so if you want to have a look, drop me a message.

Thanks for your time.

Dan.

Try 3 things...

1. End all java pgms (Java caches the com.ibm.mq.jar files even if it doesnt use them sometimes - no idea why!)

2. Look at %temp%\amqicsdn.txt and search for "in use" to see which files were in use

3. Cheat and use MQPINUSEOK (which will force a reboot post-install)

From the memo.ptf with fixpack 6:

Quote:

AMQICSDN has a number of command line parameters which can modify its
behaviour under specific circumstances, such as silent installs. If
you are using the self-extracting web version, you can either run the
downloaded .exe file to unpack first, or you can use the following
syntax directly with the downloaded .exe file:

eg. WebSphereMQCSD06EnUs.exe [-s] -a <options>

The -s option tells the unpacking to run silently, and
the -a option passes the subsequent parameter to amqicsdn.exe.
Note the unpacked version will not get deleted in this case.

The currently supported options to amqicsdn are:

Syntax
AMQICSDN.exe <parms>
or WebSphereMQCSD06EnUs.exe [-s] -a <parms>

Where <parms> is any number of

MQPLOG - Specifies the log to be used during install/uninstall
e.g. MQPLOG="C:\TEMP\CSDINSTALL.LOG"

MQPBACKUPPATH - Specifies the directory to backup into during
install
eg. MQPBACKUPPATH="C:\MQM\CSD07"

MQPREBOOT - Specifies what to do when a reboot is required
e.g. MQPREBOOT=1
Supported values:
<not supplied> - Prompt for what to do
0 - Suppress the reboot
1 - Reboot without asking

MQPSILENT - Specifies whether to do a silent install or not
e.g. MQPSILENT=1
Supported values:
<not supplied>, 0 - Interactive install
1 - Silent install

MQPINUSEOK - Specifies whether to continue even if a file is found
to be currently locked by another application. Note
should this occur, then this will require a reboot to
complete fixpack installation.
e.g. MQPINUSEOK=1
Supported values:
<not supplied>, 0 - Fail if files are found to be in use
1 - Deferred install upon reboot

MQPUNINST - Specifies the removal of the last fixpack
e.g. MQPUNINST=1
Supported values:
<not supplied>, 0 - Do an install
1 - Do an uninstall of the latest fixpack

dunesand,

I had a similar problem with installing MQ5.3 -CSD05 on win 2000 few times (I dont recollect the exact AMQ Msg number) I was able to resolve by doing one of the following:

1) Is there any monitoring app installed on the m/c like Patrol or something? if so, stop them before beginning the installation
or else
2) Stop "Windows Management Instrumentation" services and give it a try.

Hope it helps

Thanks for your replies...

I think it was NavNT running that had a few files locked (I presume it was monitoring?).

Remove that process, the install worked fine.
