Hi all,

We are in the process of changing our existing templates and data structure for new business requirements. This includes adding new activities, modification to existing data structure and routing rules. It is my understanding that existing process instances will not be affected by this. However, the business would like to apply the changes to existing instance. Is there anyway that we can do this?

thank you

If the instances are already in a running state, the only way you can change anything would be if you happen to have a subProcess activity at the point you wish to make the changes. If you do, when you change the subProcess and import/translate in runtime, then all instances not currently running the subProcess will use the new one.

If you don't have a subprocess in the right place, and I doubt that you do, then you are out of luck. There is no way to modify an inFlight instance that does not have subProcesses in it.

Venny, I thought so.

John, good point. With our current process, after executing subprocesses (in a block), it returns to the main process and we are back to the same problem. Tough luck for us .

I'll open a PMR with IBM and see what they suggest and I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks
