Hi All,
I have a question..... Just for fyi, I haven't finished reading the csqzah06.PDF (WebSphere MQ - Queue Manager Cluster).

I need to do the following:
a.) Install MQ v5.3 on Windows (Windows 2000 - Server version) on two machines/PCs.
b.) Create 1 queue manager on each machine. Create 3 local queues, 2 transmission queue, 2 remote queue, 1 dead-letter queue on machine one (SVR01) and 1 local queue, 2 transmission queue, 2 remote queue and 1 dead-letter queue on machine two (SVR02).
c.) Create the again the two queue managers, but this time on reverse... meaning, QM01 on SVR01 will be have a mirror image in SVR02 and QM02 on SVR02 will have a mirror image on SVR01. NOTE: the mirror queue managers won't be started.
REASON: If one of the machines fails, the queue manager on the other server can be started to pick up where the queue manager on the failed machine stopped. Sort of a backup plan in case of system failures.

Questions:
a.) Can MQ clustering be implemented on the backup plan? If not, can u provide some short description on what to do?
b.) Can I set up a shared network resource for the logs and other info so that the backup queue manager can pick up where the failed one stopped/ended?

Thanks,
Dino

What you need (I think!) is operating system clustering (Microsoft Cluster MSCS). You dont want to have 2 qmgrs with the same name created on 2 machines - you get 2 copies of the logs, data and 2 ip addresses. You certainly dont want 2 qmgrs with the same name in the same MQ cluster.

MSCS support gives you what you are after - The qmgr info goes on a shared disk, and can be brought down on one node (machine) and brought up on the other. You can run active/active, so both machines could each handle a qmgr, and in times of one node failing, the other assumes both qmgrs.

yep, thanks...... thats the one that i need. i'm using the help facility of the mq v5.3 for windows. are there MSCS docs available in the IBM site? i'm currently searching for one. so far, i've only found the MQ Cluster PDF file.

There is MSCS information inside the MQ docs. Look in the help center if you have MQ installed, and search for "MSCS" or "hamvmqm"

Note MSCS requires win2k advanced server, and specific hardware for the shared disk resource.

Yes, I found that one..... I haven't yet read on that part.

Tough trying to absorb a lot of things on MQ and be productive at the same time.

Thanks for the information you gave.
