I am hoping to find a utility that will allow me to view the contents of a local queue (without extracting the messages). I know that IBM provides some sample source with Websphere MQ, and that there are some utilities that are on this site. I have used the MQ Visual Edit, but now that they have decided to charge for it, I'm looking to find something else, or just write it myself.
I'm on AIX and MQ 5.3
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. |

You can use the MQExplorer from a Windows MQ server. If you don't have a windows mq, then probably you can use the amqsgbr or amqsbcg sample program. If the length of the field output is not enough, you can edit and recompile the program, just increase the buffer length.
You can also go to the MQ SupporPac site, and download the supportpac to help you do this. http://www-3.ibm.com/software/integration/support/supportpacs/category.html#cat2
Check out the MC6D, MO60
Another alternative is that, you can check a few postings here in this forum about browsing the queue. |

I personally use IH03 and MO71.
What I don't get is ... that if you are happy and someone wants you to pay something for their efforts all of a sudden it is not worth it anymore...

Michael, thanks for your comments.
sevenfan, it is too bad that you didn't officially sign up as a beta tester for MQ Visual Edit. Capitalware offered a promo price to registered beta testers at a substantial discount to the current price.
One of the benefits when you purchase MQ Visual Edit, is that you get free upgrades to all "1.x" versions. In the very near future we will be releasing v1.1.0 of MQ Visual Edit (it is sub-title: "Threading gone wild"). Almost every function will support threading. Therefore, anyone with a dual CPU box or the new Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading that are working with 100 or more messages will notice a much more responsive & robust GUI interface.
Also, there will be Stress Testing Tooling included with v1.1.0. You will be able to launch 25 (or more) "PUT Worker Bees", all firing messages at the same queue but at user selectable rates (i.e. messages per second). These "worker bees" will be threaded, hence, you will still be able to use MQ Visual Edit while doing large-scale stress testing.
So, I hope the old & new features provide value and hence are worth the purchase.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix
