Hi,
Can anyone give me an indication of whether only installing the Control Center on an NT machine would allow for a reduction in license cost?
On a similar note, is there any way to only install the NEON/NNSY GUI's but not the runtime on NT?
I'm sure this is a question to ask IBM but I am hoping for an rough idea about it first.
Thanks,
Vicky |

Hi again,
I should make it clear that I am talking initially about 2.1 on NT (we have our brokers on AIX), but the same questions apply to any client/server installations of 5.0 on W2K/XP.
Thanks for any help,

My understanding of the license model for WMQI 2.1 is that you license the machines the brokers run on, and that's it. Everything else is "covered" under that same license.
So Control Center installations don't count. And I expect that this holds true for version 5.
But that is just my understanding. You will need to discuss this with your IBM sales representative in order to get the real facts. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Thanks. Do you think that applies to the configuration manager aswell? That would make sense.
We are in the process of finding out officially though - it will make a huge difference to license renewal costs.
Cheers,
Vicky
P.S. To answer the other part of my question, in case anyone wants to know in future, you can select just the GUI's from the NNSY install by running setup.exe directly from the CD and it all works fine for connecting to a remote Rules & Formats database. |

Yes, that should apply to the Config Mgr as well. It is not a factor. You should only have to pay for each machine you have a broker on. You can also have multiple brokers on a machine, you are paying per capacity unit for that machine. The number of brokers does not matter, although I would only recommend you do something like that for things such as establishing multiple env's on one machine, such as test/stage on the same UNIX box, for example. Might be some reason to do that in prod, but I doubt it. As always, I'd double check with your acct manager to be sure in regards to licensing. |
