I am trying to run a java transformation process on AIX 5.1 (java V1.3.1)and am getting a java null pointer error with no other information.

Previously I used to have the environment variable
export LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x40000000
in my Unix profile.

However when I have this on the new system I am getting a memory fault error when I try and run java.

Is there anyway other than the tweek above which now does not work that I can get java and mq to work together?

If you are running MQ 5.3, you should be able to use extended shared memory rather than try using the IPCCBaseAddress tricks to get around segment 8. I'd suggest setting:

export EXTSHM=ON

Also, do you have any CSDs applied to your MQ? I thought that CSD4 had a null pointer exception (somewhere) in it.
