1.I have my prod build time on my PC and the PC is now going to be replaced with a new PC. My question is how do I backup my production BT database from my PC to new PC.
Please siuggest different alternatives available for me how to migrate from my old PC to new PC with out loss of BT data
2. We do not have a clear set up of buld time database change control. All we have is one single buld time database. We develop our model in BT, put it in DVLPRT, if OK export from DVLPRT---->TESTRT ---->PRODRT.
Somehow I am not convinced that it is a right practice.. (If you think its ok..please let me know)
I wauld like to set up three environments basically buildtime for production-test-dvlp. Is that a good idea? The set up I am thinking would be like this
DVLPBT---> DVLPRT
DVLPBT--->TESTBT---->TESTRT
TESTBT---->PRODBT--->PRODRT
Please throw me your suggestions how to go about it? |

Simply do an Export ALL from Old BT, then Export the FDL into the new BT making sure to check the overwrite checkbox.

that is a good one john, and simple one too.. !! even the dba can help in migrating but it will be too much for the requirement..
question no.2: for managing the models in dev, test and prod it is worth evaluating the WBI workbench along with the workbench server.
In current situation i personally prefer having 1 to 1 relation.. dev BT to dev RT, test BT to test RT and prod BT to prod RT.. by corresponding config ID .. it again depends on the number of processes ur expecting.. (the load)..
even proper naming convention may help u to have a scenario where u will have only one BT env meeting the requirements of all the prod envs.

I am proposing to have one to one relation ship between BT--->RT in each environment for DVLP,TEST,PROD respectively. But my question is suppose the model is working fine in DVLP and I would like to move to test. What I think, I should do is to export FDL from BT in DVLP and import into BT in TEST. Is that a right approach?

- u may have to change some of the parameters.. like system/system group/qmgr etc. or u can export specific objects which needs migration (process/authorizations etc.) .. that may not even need changes to the fdl.. the later one is preferred and the later one may also need some changes to the data (depending on what ur exporting) .. u may even have to change this too.. manually in fdl
- no, it is not part of buildtime .. but this may eventually replace BT pl refer to www.ibm.com/software/integration/wbimodeler/ or u can refer to the holosofx redbook
- u may think of creating diff configs for diff env in buildtime and maintain models accordingly.. or u can even use one config storing all the models (dev/test/etc.) .. but these options are good when ur dealing wiht few models and with less data.. and it requires some manual intervention like changing the fdl (bottom line, may not be a good idea, depending on ur scenario!)
