I'm interested in what others have done with regards to the columns you've displayed on a user's worklist.
In an application we are writing, the users are finding it unacceptable/limiting to only being able to see the columns that are associated with a workitem.
Instead, they'd prefer to see columns populated with data from the data container, with each column "sortable" (yes, I realize this is a custom job). So, we've tried to "stuff" data container elements into the description of the workitem, and parse out the contents in order to do the column display. This was done as an alternative to querying the data container of each workitem due to performance overhead.
So, what have other folks done when faced with this requirement? Part of me says that the workitem columns *ought* to be good enough, as long as we display the description of the workitem with appropriate data from the data container (e.g., "Do some work for Customer A"). Afterall, the workflow system is supposed to deliver workitems to the user as the process was designed. Is this a case where the user simply wants more control over the work than they *should* have?
Technical or non-technical solutions greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bob |

I don't understand why the worklist needs to 've all the data in the container. I believe when somebody chose to work on a workitem then u need to show the container to him.
i think your problem is more like the users want to prioritize/sort etc on the work list and they want it do on data in the datacontainer.
One way is , identify the key data which is used for sorting/filtering and put them in the global container. however you can't display data from the GC. So you need to use (or parse) the description for dislpay purpose
-hope it helps _________________ -manoj |

Thanks for your reply, manoj. Unfortunately, I think you are correct about the users wanting to prioritize the work instead of the system prioritizing the work. |
