Thanks Tibor for taking the lead on this. Once complete and the dust has settled, could you do a post mortem referencing your AIX version (4.3.3) and maintenance release (MR 11) prior to upgrade and where your OS is now, version 5.2 and MR (?). Same thing with MQ and MQSI, versions and CSD levels. This would let all of us know where we need to be or what to watch out for when we dive into this, especially if you find issues that require e-fixes from IBM that are not part of current CSD's or AIX maintenance releases. |

All works like a charm... but AIX cluster...
So, the story:
We started from AIX 4.3.3 ML10 with
- MQ v5.3 CSD03
- WMQI v2.1 CSD04
- Oracle 8i 8.1.7.0
Steps was next:
- buying a new machine and disk array (for clustering)
- installing AIX 5.2 with TCB plus HACMP
- MQ v5.3 CSD04
- WMQI v2.1 CSD05
- Oracle v???
Why? Because only Oracle 9i is supported on AIX 5.2 but we tried all available version - 8.1.7, 9.0.1, 9.2. And the days ran away when someone told me what is the right choice? yes the last (v9.2). We have no practice in 9i so that wasn't a painless decision. Moreover I heard about problems with WMQI + Oracle 9i configurations. Fortunatly I worried unnecessary about this, works fine.
Another adventure was the AIX clustering: MQ and WMQI cluster-proof scripts. Until yesterday we'd created queue managers, WMQI components and broker database - very recommended an Oracle 9i expert if you don't like spending hours with it. After we stop our old box, new box started in three hours.
Clustering is not working until now, because missing hardware components...
For your questions about needed patches:
- refresh your AIX xlC.aix50.rte for using MQ SSL (IY38959)
- AIX 5.2 includes Java131.rte packages, but you won't install WMQI because depending on Java 1.3.0 or later, and its script don't find a package Java130.rte ... had to remove Java 1.3.1, hunt, download and install Java 1.3.0 for AIX 5L
HTH,
Tibor |
