I just noticed in the MQSeries using Java manual under connection factory transport type I can now specify MQJMS_TP_DIRECT_TCPIP. I am familiar with the other two options which is the binding and the client. Is this a new type ? My understanding is that the JMS client is talking to the JMS provider. In the case of IBM the JMS provider is MQSeries. I am a little confused in this case which is the JMS provider. Does it mean that IBM provides a TCP/IP JMS provider ? |

Direct tcp/ip is the connection that the JMS client uses when it connects to the WebSphere MQ Event broker. It is used for publish/subscribe. I believe there are some details in one of the Using Java appendices. |

Thanks, does it mean that this will only work with the event broker ? Can we use JMS to send something to a TCP/IP program without using MQ as the JMS provider ? |

I doubt that you could send something (ie, what protocol would you follow) from a JMS program directly to a tcp/ip port. You'd have to know how to unpack it in order for it to be of any value. |
