The answer to this question depends on one of two things
  1. which version of WAS 5.0 you are running
  2. whether you need globally coordinated XA transactions
If you need two-phase transactions, you either need a queue manager on the same machine as the app server or you need the Extended Transaction client on the app server machine.

Some of the more expensive versions *include* a fully licensed queue manager. If you are using one of those versions, it may not make sense to pay for additional queue manager licenses to run a queue manager on another machine. On the other hand, if you are using one of the less expensive versions that do not include a fully licensed queue manager, you need to buy a license anyway and may want to put the queue manager on another machine for upgrade/problem handling management reasons.

HI Jeff,
Thanx for the reply..

I have WAS 5.0 ND version and i have WebSphere MQ server also, I just want to use the Pub/Sub functionality of MQ.

I have installed 2 WAS 5.0 ND servers with embedded client only, i'm using WAS clustering so installed deployment manager with embedded features.

Now i was thinking to installed MQ server on the 2 machines where i have installed WAS, thought to consult you guys. Becasue this is the first time i'm into MQ server env.

Will the WAS machines will be under load with the installtion of MQ.....there is not going to be much load initially....but it can go up to 1000/day users down the line...

So i was thinking what is the advantage of putting MQ on seperate box..i mean technically & politically( another server cost)

Pl reply

Thanx
