Hey,

We are planning on using client concentrator. The Clients are WAS clients (atleast 10 app servers that are trying to conncet to Workflow and righnow they all have MQ client installed on 'em) and we only have one Workflow Server. As the concentrator is strictly for concentration of the traffic from WAS clients, do we really need to install "Client With QMGR" on the client concentrator? Instead, can we just create the Client Queues on the concentrator ourselves and use appropriate CHL TABS in WAS. We plan to do this as this would reduce the license costs for us. Please give ur ideas.

Thanx,
Jack

Client Concentrator (Client with MQServer) takes care of load balancing your requests between multiple Workflow Systems. As you said you only have one workflow System, I believe you dont even need a client concentrator. It is always a good Idea to have an MQServer as a client concentrator, so that you can add additional workflow systems with out again redesigning your deployment architecture.

I am not sure but I thought the MQServer is a free license if it is solely used for MQ Workflow. Dont quote me on this though.

Ratan,

You are correct about the license. Here is the url of a FAQ that asks the question:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=795&context=SSVLA5&q=licenses&uid=swg21006953&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

Charlie, Thnx for your reply. It is a little tricky here, as the Client Concentrator machine need not be the Application Server Machine. It can be like an intermediate Hub, taking messages from WAS and forwarding them to MQWF. I am not sure for such setup if it is a free license.

Ratan,

Thanks for tip on licence. Let me rephrase the question, is there any real need to have Workflow Client on the concentrator (if it is just used for traffic concentration and no load balancing, single workflow system)? Can I replace the Workflow concentrator with MQSeries hub? Is it possible at all?

Thanks,

with my understanding, there is no use for a client concentrator unless you have multiple workflow systems. I would suggest a client concentrator even for a single system, as you would not have to do anything when you add additional workflow systems.

I dont understand your question. Can you elaborate?

Client concentrator is basically the usage of MQServer for workflow client to connect to workflow system.

... also it is recommended to have WAS installed as 'client with queue manager'; the benefits:
- no need for a client concentrator anymore
- ready for adding additional mqwf systems
- environment more robust
- no mqseries license required for 'client with queue manager'
- as a bonus, you can use any of the WAS 'client with queue manager' as a client concentrator for other pure clients

Yes it's always good to 've MQSeries server avaibale on the workflow client. You can achieve mqseries load balancing especially when using UPES (even if you 've only one workflow server, You will be able to send the UPES messages to queues defined on u r 10 application servers round robin)
