trying to get the last character of a string.

substring(<expression> from -1 for 1) doesnt work

substring(<expression> from -1 - returns the entire string

substring(<expression> from -1 for -1) - didnt make sense but tried it anyway but didnt work.

any suggestions?

nevermind just used the length as a start point but still would like to know why a negative start point doesnt work. It says it can be used in the infocenter.

Use the RIGHT function.

Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error.
