Hello friends,
In my workspace I have about 50 projects calling them from an existing workspace without copying them to the current workspace. I'm trying to build a .bar using Ant but the time taken is between 6 and 7 minutes.
I'm using mqsicreatebar without -cleanbuild because with -cleanbuild the process is more slowly.
what I can do to reduce the time of .Bar construction? |

mqsipackagebar will take about seven seconds per bar. What version are you on? Version numbers have four digits. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

When will you be able to go to V9 ? |
After the 1st fix pack?
Don't assume there's going to be a rush onto v7, especially given the number of people who've recently moved to v8. We're on v7, plan to move to v9 mid-2014 and will be running both v7 & v9 for at least a year until all the v7 users have migrated.
And yes, that timescale is dictated principally by resource availability & money. I know it's different in your ivory tower. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Some of us have a huge migration problem and simply applying a fixpack is a major operation. 95% of the systems we connect to are 3rd parties who can't or more likely won't setup a test system for operational testing.
So Mr Ivory tower, how do you propose to solve that one then?
Oh, and some of our customers won't pay us to do the upgrade testing then add into the mix that they are scattered all over the world. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

There is nothing to solve in V7.0.0.x. He's stuck with six minute build times. The solution is to move to V8.0.0.2 or V9 which then can use mqsipackagebar and the time is cut to six seconds.
Notice I did not say for him to immediately migrate. I just asked when he would be able to.
He can at least patch to 7.0.0.6 which may help his situation.
@smdavies And mind your manners, or I'll send the monkey's to get you. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

of course, mqsipackagebar trades build time for deploy time.
mqsicreatebar time can be reduced by limiting the size of the workspaces that are being used to ensure that only the required resources are part of the active workspace.
But it still launches Toolkit in a headless mode, so you still have to deal with Toolkit startup time. |

Personally I didn't think 6 or 7 minutes was bad for 50 projects. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Your correct : ( or filipino korek ). 50 projects into one bar in six or seven minutes is stellar. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks
