Hello,

I have installed MQ version 7.5 on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 box (version 3.0.51-0.7.9-default) with a queue manager and queues and topics. When I try and connect to the queue manager via MQ Explorer version 7.5 from a remote Windows 7 machine, I get the following error:

Access not permitted. You are not authorised to perform this operation (AMQ4036).

If I look in the logs at /var/mqm/qmgrs/MyManager/errors, I see the following:

Code:
----- amqrmrsa.c : 898 --------------------------------------------------------
04/24/2013 11:55:37 AM - Process(11717.25) User(mqm) Program(amqzlaa0)
                    Host(MyServer) Installation(Installation1)
                    VRMF(7.5.0.0) QMgr(MyManager)

AMQ5653: The user 'MQM' is not defined.

EXPLANATION:
The system call getpwnam("MQM") failed with errno -1.
ACTION:
Create the user 'MQM' and retry the operation.

1) The Linux user "mqm" exists and I can log into the box as it.
2) There is an entry for mqm in /etc/passwd.
3) The mqm user has a home directory at /home/mqm and the permissions are as follows:

Code:
drwxr-xr-x 15 mqm  root   4096 Apr 24 13:15 .

4) The mqm user is a member of the mqm group (from /etc/group):

Code:
mqm:!:1000:mqm

5) The permissions from /etc are as follows:

Code:
drwxr-xr-x 107 root root      12288 Apr 24 11:33 .
-rw-r--r--   1 root root        648 Apr  3 17:02 group
-rw-r--r--   1 root root       1348 Apr  3 17:02 passwd

6) I have checked the file permissions for /etc, /etc/group and /etc/passwd from the (correctly working) installation on another box and can find no differences.

Any suggestions as to what the issue is, please?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

There is a difference between MQM and mqm. That is probably the beginning of the explanation for the problem. Not sure what the end of it is, though.

Uninstalled and reinstalled MQ. All seems OK.
