I am looking for a general opinion here. We have a customer facing MQ queue manager that we use to connect to our external business clients. Today we usually only allow queue manager to queue manager connections on this box and have several customers that share this queue manger. We have a new customer that uses Active MQ and wants to connect to our customer facing queue manger with some bridge software and use Active MQ to consume messages. In general I have resisted having external customers connecting to us using Clients as I have found it hard to have the external customers make coding changes as client issues arise. We have thousands of company internal clients but at least we control the applications. I am just looking at thoughts from others on letting an ACTIVE MQ with bridge adapter connect to a shared queue manger, would you feel comfortable, or have you done this? |

This is easy to do. Active MQ is a very well supported product and pay-for support is available if issues arise. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

The question isn't is it easy to do but rather would you let a customers application that you have no control over connect to shared queue manger using Active MQ? |

YES. Why not? What is different about ActiveMQ product than any other product you would connect or use? Nothing, really.

Put in a Gateway queue manager for the external to connect to. This will involve you having to hop messages in/out to/from it, but means that the external will not be directly hitting infrastructure that interfaces with your other customers. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
