Yes, so it's an excellent mechanism to *test* your monitoring, but a terrible mechanism to *provide* your monitoring. |

Where here does it say that the trace is made for the sole purpose of monitoring?
Where does it imply in that section that the trace is useful for anything other than tracing out the operation of various selectable queue manager components for the purpose of problem tracing and resolution?

ok i read it but even then when it's there to trace the operations of selectable components of the queue managers.
why do we refrain from using it? |

Because it's designed to allow for troubleshooting not monitoring.
Leaving trace enabled will a) fill up your file system, b) significantly impact the performance of your queue manager, c) provide far more data than is meaningful for a monitoring solution, d) hide all of the meaningful information behind a vast amount of unmeaningful information.
But, you know, we're just random strangers on the internet. So go right ahead and do what you think is best. |

You have been misinformed and misled as to the purpose and function of a trace. It is neither a performance tool, nor an application testing tool.
A trace is called for, usually at the direction of IBM, to capture granular detail about the internal operation of WMQ and its components, for the purpose of problem-determination, debugging and error correction.
