Hi all,
take a look at the topics on this first page of General Discussion. How many of the topics are about technical or product specific and should actually be moved to another forum? Allmost all of them, if you ask me.
Wonder why? I posted a real general discussion item yesterday (it was really about discussion in general  - with a slightly misleading and provocative title, I must admit) and it has been removed by some moderator. That's why!
However, I could be wrong. I had a very bad line yesterday that kept disconnecting. But I think I double-checked that the I saw my topic where it should have landed. |

I saw it but as I was at work couldn't follow the link (YouTube being blocked) and was a little disappointed to see it gone later. I can understand a mod removing it if it looks like spam, but please bear in mind that it takes time to email someone and confirm the post is genuine, and as such removal can often be a first rather than a last resort.

Me too, but gave it the benefit of the doubt as I too can't get to YouTube through the corporate content filter & found it gone why I tried to check it from a secured home machine.
Perhaps a little less misleading next time eh? Clearly someone was misled...

If it's the one we're chatting about, the link you provided played a YouTube video from Monty Python. While humorous and enjoyable, it was in no way related to WMQ. I deleted it as spam.

Erm...
Within the letter of the description of the section, General Discussion doesn't have to be related to WMQ. Where non-WMQ discussion crosses the line into spam I'm not sure, though I am sure there is a line somewhere.
And we do discuss stuff not directly related to WMQ/WMB/et al from time to time. Often in threads with a more specific purpose.
FWIW if it had been a url from a less well known poster I probably would have hit the delete button straight off on the assumption it was a link to malware or medicinal products often targeted at men of my age which of course I have no use for.

Clearly, there's lots of general discussion here. Your complaint about things that should be moved to another forum is more about form than content.
If yours was the Monty Python post, I deleted it. I'm not a censor, but more a garbage collector. I've deleted a variety of posts over time that attempt to sell things on e-Bay, or lead to porn or music videos. Nearly all of them had misleading titles.
I likely would have left it if you had titled it "Funny Monty Python video."

You do make a good point; other than your 2 threads at the top of this forum, every other one is MQ (or closely related to it). I would have assumed General Discussion would be more for off topic discussion, a place where we can *not* talk about MQ.
But that's just my 2 Canadian cents  |

In retrospect, I should not have deleted the Monty Python post. However, I do reserve the right to delete YouTube videos of, say, I Love Lucy and Lost in Space episodes.
