My statement was merely the continuing philosophical discussion. I don't rely on a queue full condition to protect me from anything! After all, if an application never commits there are not going to be any messages anyway

If you have 200,000 100mb uncommitted persistent messages....

This presumes the MQ Admin bumped the QM's MAXUMSGS parameter to 200,000 or higher.

Another scenario, more likely in my limited experience, is that a little app does one single MQGET in syncpoint, it doesn't commit, and it doesn't end. The QM dutifully establishes and maintains that checkpoint in the log just in case this little app needs to roll back the message. Meanwhile, 10 other apps sharing the QM are moving huge volumes of messages, and they are coded 100% correctly, committing on a regular basis. Due to their high volume they are advancing the logs at a regular pace. But that one little app's uncommitted message holds the checkpoint, and the active logs grow, and grow, and grow......ah, the joys of a shared environment!
