Ok, this got zero play on MQ list server forum so will try here:
Anyone aware of a comprehensize and authoritative document(whitepaper, etc. in one place not multiple disjointed/disconnected sources):
Giving a detailed description of the interplay and proper usage settings of all the various connection time out parameters and configuration settings that can be made in MQ, Unix and DataPower that affect client connections and best practices on how to set them.
Perhaps even a flowchart diagram or a workflow diagram, with items such as max handles, TCP KeepAlive and heartbeat settings in the kernel; on the MQ Queue Manager; cache timeout, channel heartbeat, initial connections and connection limit in DP; Keep alive interval on the MQ channel (when to use Auto as opposed to fix time) and note whether settings are in seconds or millisecond or something else for each parameter, for these or any other parameters I have not mentioned that would be relevant(e.g. MQ channel property 'sharecnv' for MQv7).
This would be a very valuable whitepaper type of document. One only ever gets piecemeal dribs and drabs of incomplete information with seat of the pants suggestions and recommendations in this area. So most everyone just crosses their fingers and muddles on until problems arise.
By comprehensize I mean starting with backgrounder on the TCP protocol threeway handshake:
"... Think of a simple TCP connection between Peer A and Peer B: there is the initial three-way handshake, with one SYN segment from A to B, the SYN/ACK back from B to A, and the final ACK from A to B. ...", and explaning the need to be able to distinguish, dead peers from network inactivity and go forward into how and why each parameter is used and why.
If not, anyone care to write one (e.g. IBM support care to write a nice RedPaper)?

Yes, excellent ... I remember after seeing it again that Moragh had first written a version of this some time ago I believe and I completely had forgotten about it ... this looks like a relatively recent update as well as it references MQ v7 ...
A great start/base for my quest ... thanks much!
