Hi all, I have some doubts regarding the conditions that would trigger the switch of the active qmgr instance to the standby one. In the info center, the conditions are described as below:
------------------------------------------------------
The active instance might fail for various reasons that result in the standby taking over:
#1 Failure of the server hosting the active queue manager instance.
#2 Failure of connectivity between the server hosting the active queue manager instance and the file system.
#3 Unresponsiveness of queue manager processes, detected by WebSphere MQ, which then shuts down the queue manager.
-----------------------------------------------------
below is my understanding:
#1 the server hosting the qmgr is down (power cut-off, any other situation?)
#2 the server hosting the active queue manager lost the network connectivity to the networked file system
#3 which qmgr processes would cause the qmgr down? which process would shutdown the qmgr(one monitoring process? i suppose)? |

It might have been nice if you're posted a link to where it says this (for the record it's here).

How about deliberately or inadvertently closed by the admin?

That covers a multitude of sins.

Any of the ones in the admin guide theoretically.
But you don't actually say what your doubts are? When the failover would occur? What would cause it?
Or if there's a chance that a problem won't be detected and failover won't happen automatically? Of course there's a chance. There's a chance with Vertias, HACMP and any other HA software. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
