Hi,

'refresh cluster() repos() ' command is mentioned in ibm manuals and suggested not to use it or its for exceptional cases. (..we know this)
'refresh cluster() repos() ' what it does internally do to cluster qmgr, that's also mentioned in the manuals.

When we do the 'refresh cluster(clustername) from any cluster qmgr which requires refresh, it takes down some logs in that qmgr error log, e.g. (which I've noticed) :

Code:

----- amqrmrca.c : 946 --------------------------------------------------------
 07/19/11 10:25:58 - Process(1745144.1) User(mqm) Program(amqrrmfa)
 AMQ9442: Refresh Cluster command processed.

 EXPLANATION:
The Refresh Cluster(CLUS1) command caused 9 objects to be refreshed and 1
 objects to be republished.
 ACTION:
 None.
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can we come to know which of those 9 object refreshed and 1 republished (as shown in the above case).
But 'in general' which objects are refreshed and republished ?

(Its not documented in IBM Manuals, AFAIK).

You inputs are really appreciated ! Thanks.

Cluster objects are replaced/republished to bring them to current state - with object defs in FRs.

Other than curiosity, why do you need to now exactly which objects?

agree !
thanks for bringing that up !

Because it's one of the facts that's kept hidden., I'm curious about it, why just the count of objects, why not just the names of those..in the qmgr error log.

Other then that, in our system, an issue was being fixed couple of months ago after 'refresh cluster()' hit on a cluster qmgr ., but again same issue appeared , so.. wanted to know what all those objects were being replaced/republished in the qmgr knowledge base/repository after 'refresh cluster() '.. so that those objects can be analyzed and debugged without much spending time and efforts.
As we know, refresh cluster does not do fixing on corrupt/bad channel definitions, or start listeners, resume QMgr, or fix network problems, or PUT enable queues etc. etc.

The output from the command does not represent an error condition - therefore no errors are logged.

How will knowing the names of hundreds or thousands of objects that were refreshed help you?

IBM offers a clusters course WM250, which includes some discussion of the innards of clusters - much of which is not documented.

How do you know when a clustered qmgr needs a cluster refresh?

I'm confused by this statement.

What was the issue being fixed? Did IBM recommend a refresh? Or did you try it to see if it would help? What same issue?

Was a refresh cluster the solution? Or was it the problem?

Issue was not that complex but, on distributed qmgr queues were not visible , which were local to mainframe qmgr and were shared in cluster.
cluster channel pair was running fine between those cluster qmgrs !
after refresh cluster() was done from distributed qmgr(which is FR in this case), queue cluster were visibile which were local to mf qmgr. so that issue was being fixed at that time.
and after refresh cluster, queue manager error log said, what I've shown in the first thread of this post.(where few were refreshed and republished in qmgr's knowledge base/repository)

Now, the *same* issue appeared few days ago. AND wanted to avoid refresh cluster() again, I wanted to have a look at those objects which were refreshed and republished (as per qmgr error log) just being curious. (issue was in test environment, so till now business is not affected).

and Yes, refresh cluster was recommended by IBM itself.
