You realise that in some shops you have committed complete heresy.
Seriously, getting a site to change their chosen server OS is like pulling hens teeth. Most places (IMHO) have far to many 'vested interests' to even consider this option even though it might well be true.

| Working on the assumption that the client will want to stick with their standard build and support set up, can anyone offer any advice on the ODBC set up? |

OK, so hopefully I can shed a little light on this. First, for Windows, there are two separate products - one is 32bit only and therefore can only run 32bit brokers and EGs, and the other is 64bit only and can only run 64bit brokers and EGs - there is no mix and match - so to run 64bit Brokers you must have the 64bit version of the product. Second - when we first introduced the 64bit product Oracle was not supported on 64bit due to a lag in testing. This has now been resolved and in the last two weeks the Broker SOE for 64bit Windows has been updated to state that Oracle is now fully supported in7.0.0.2 (except XA) on 64bit Windows. The SOE stating this is here:

Now as this is so recent, the docs are still in the process of being updated and so currently only refer to the 32bit setup. However, the setup for 64bit is very similar to the 32bit version except that you have to use the 64bit Datasource tool to create the DSN. However, if you are still having problems, please post the steps you have followed and I will try to guide you.

OK - steps to add a 64-bit ODBC.
1. Modify link to point to %systemroot%\SysWoW64\Odbcad32.exe
2. Click the System DSN tab and click Add
3. Attempted Oracle - Select the driver "WebSphere Message Broker DataDirect Technologies 6.00 32-BIT Oracle Wire Protocol"
This driver is not present as an option. We are running WMB v7.0.0.2 as 64-bit. |

If you do not see an DataDirect Oracle 64bit ODBC driver, you may not have installed the 64bit version of Broker.
Or you may need to apply FP2 to 7.0. |

No. On 64 bit Windows, this is the 32 bit DataSources utility. You need the 64 Bit one in the "Control Panel/Administrative Tools" or %systemroot%\System32\Odbcad32.exe
