Hello,

My manager asked me to find out these:

1) Is there an announced end-date for WMB version 7 support ? Yes, I am asking about version SEVEN.

2) Any announcements for WMB version 8 so far ? When will it be tentatively available ?

I believe this is for planning purposes by our upper management.

Any authentic info on the above 2 questions is greatly appreciated.

Hursley guys in the forum, can you please reply.

Thanks

Though typically it would be GA a period of time before WMBv7 went OOS

Impressive. Most real people are still planning WMBv7 migration.

Any authentic information will come only from IBM via normal channels. Information via other means (like a volunteer run forum) is by definition not authentic.

See above. Anyone who knows is in all probablility not allowed to discuss it.

(Of course, if any of the usual suspects want to start a rumour that WMBv7 will go OOS in Q1 2012 due to the world ending, I'm in...)

If there are any published EOL/EOS Dates then they will be on the IBM WebSite.
IMHO, the Hursley guys how post here will probably refer you to the dates published on the IBM site. They don't make these sort of decisions.

As for V8.
My guess is not for another 12 months at least. We are only on the 2nd FixPack for V7.

Joking aside, your best source of authentic information is from IBM via a PMR or your account rep who will be able to give the official view.

I'd suspect that this will be the current public view i.e. no dates for either but that should satisfy your management.

End of service has not been announced for WMB V7. WMB follows IBM's enhanced policy for SW support, which states that a version will be supported for a minimum of 5 years from GA... plus an optional 3 year extension that you can purchase.
V7 was released in Nov 2009, so work forward from that.

V8 (or whatever the next version's called) hasn't been announced yet. For quite a few releases now, there have been major versions released every two years, and fixpacks made available roughly every six months.

Internal codenames for WMB releases have all been named after ships. If there's one called Bernard then we're in business!

Not sure Titanic would set the right tone of the release for the dev team, but I am picky like that...

This should be Tirpitz.

It was sunk by the RAF in a Norwegian Fjord after being holed up there for most of the war. Hardly and effective name for something as eminent as Broker.

Some names that some to mind.

Illustrious - Retired from Royal Navy.
Indefatigble hmm, Sunk at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. Scratch that one.
Dreadnaught - A real Heavyweight
Royal Oak ( a nice beer to boot )
