Hi all,

I am also concerned by all this, I have a mscs setup with MQv6 and WMBv6.0. in active /passive. We have also db2 databases for customer specific stuff that needs to fail over with the broker.
(not only the broker db)

Customer wants to go to MQv7 and WMBv7 because our connectors to SAP is not supported anymore and they are going to use the native SAP connectors.

Customer is using mscs for several other applications, so the cost of mscs is there even if there is some other solution and customer wants to use mscs.

I checked the supportpack IC91 today and it is not supporting WMBv7.

I checked the infocenter and there is a chapter for "Using a broker with an existing high availability manager" at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v7r0m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/be13650_.htm but it seems only to apply to unix/AIX not windows and mscs.

Is there anyone who has already done a similar thing and would like to share their experience?

any adivce?

BR
Erik

As Broker 7 has only been out since late november, my guess is that IC91 will get updated in due course.
Have you emailed the support pack author to see if it is being updated for Broker 7.

That aside, my second guess is that of you follow the guidelines for Broker 6 (ignoring any references to the ConfigMgr) you will get Broker 7 working in an MSCS environment.

Interesting that the IC91 page says a prerequisite is MC91, but MC91 is withdrawn.

I'm not aware of anything in WMB 7 that would break an MSCS based solution that was configured for WMB 6. But, I have not used WMB 7 with MSCS, so what do I know?

I emailed the supportpack author, it seems like I am in troubble.

Unfortunately there will be not further updates to IC91. The product documentation has been updated to include some of the information provided in IC91 as well as information on how to use the new commands to configure a broker with a HA manager. I am not aware of any plans at the moment to include MSCS specific configuration information in the documentation.

I can't even do the experiment *try using the instructions in IC91) since the only environment I have with mscs is the production environment.

If anyone has any advice or experience about this please advice, just the knowledge that someone has done this before and succeded would be good.

Doing this live on prod with trial en error does not seem the right way to go..

I'm not aware of anyone who's done MSCS with Broker v7.

But there's no reason it shouldn't work just as it did with Broker v6.1 and earlier.

It's an easier setup as well, as you don't need to concern yourself with the Broker database anymore - just the queue manager and the filesystem and any networking interfaces you need to move.

If you already have a MSCS v6 environment established then it should not be too much trouble to move it up to V7. The 2 changes which may affect your setup are;
a) the switch to using a filesystem based registry instead of the windows registry (hopefully it should simplify the setup in MSCS)
b) the removal of the database requirement which 'may' affect the setup depending on your database usage
