Are you taking the interview, or being interviewed?

If you're taking the interview you should have enough knowledge of the way the product is used in the team you're interviewing for to target your questions appropriately.

If you're being interviewed, a decent amount of experience will get you through. An interview is not an exam you can cram for.

Funny, I always considered "taking an interview" and "being interviewed" as being on the same side of the table.

It's just my weird background and accent.

I think you will find that anyone who has given an interview will never reveal the possible questions they might ask. It would give candidates an unfair advantage. Likewise, people who have been interviewed are not likely to remember or give questions to other candidates in a competitive job situation.

Back when I was an interviewer, my first questtion to the interviewee was something like: "what questions should I be asking you to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and experience with (insert product/technology name here)?"

I like open-ended questions. Asking things like "what is max queue depth?" is far less productive than asking "what are the issues that arise from queue attribute settings?"

That style of questioning could lead the interviewee to ramble on into excessive detail or unrelated subjects and waste a lot of time. Interviewers need an objective basis to rate the candidates, and a list of canned questions and a simple scoring system helps that greatly.

I kind of want to know if that's the type of person I'm going to be dealing with if I hire them!

I always like to ask a question that I expect the interviewee does not know the answer to.

Don't ask about MQ and MB, would rather think of something else in this part

One of the reasons for asking this type of question is to see how much they do know and if they can make reasonable attempts to answer it from that. So yes, I do ask about product stuff.

I'm not going to randomly ask them to solve an electrical engineering question if they're interviewing for an MQ junior admin position - but I might ask them what happens to messages sitting on S.C.T.Q when you add an additional matching cluster destination.

Yes, most interviewers like to get a word in edgeways now and again
