Is anyone aware of whether or not I can use the saveqmgr.exe on a Vax/VMS platform? If possible, where can I get more information? I've tried GOOGLE with no real success.

At least one person will be. He'll be along in a while.

Please contact me by email, at the address listed in the read.me.

There is an Open_VMS distribution of MS03 more or less included in the Open_VMS distribution of MQ v6, and I'm planning on shipping an ms03_vms package in my next release cycle, but right now the best way to get it is to contact me directly.

Or use the MQ Client version from another server. I'm always amused by the people that use MS03 directly on the server hosting the QM they are using MS03 for.

I'm backing up my QM objects!
Where do you keep the backups?
On the same server the QM lives.
Oh. And if the server blows up and you need to actually use that MS03
backup to rebuild the QM?

You might want to use the MQ Client version of MS03 on a central server to back up all you QM objects to a central location, and then back that up regularly. Makes MS03 maintenance simpler if you only have one copy to maintain.

Thanks Jeff,

I will contact you next week, if/when we decide to proceed with the use of the saveqmgr 6.0 for our vms servers...

Peter,
I do exactly that for our windows/unix servers for the obvious reason. That is what I'm trying to incorporate into our vms servers as well...

So why not client connect to the VMS server with the same client version of MS03 that is already connecting to Unix / Windows? Our one client MS03 connects to hundreds of QMs - Windows, various Unix, z/OS.

Peter,

Maybe I didn't completely understand you. On our windows servers, for instance, I installed saveqmgr 6.0 on the windows server and then create a scheduled task to execute the saveqmgr.exe and save the existing backup on another server. That way if the server crashes I can still get at the backup file.

I am unfamiliar with using an mq client and saveqmgr to backup an mq server.

Like in all things you need to use the client version saveqmgrc.exe for a client connection... works fine and can be scheduled under windows...

I have a script that runs it for 85% of the qmgrs in my environment.
