I have come across an issue a couple of times where I have messages sitting in the SCTQ bound for a specific queue manager. I look at the channel status for that queue manager, but there is nothing. If I go into amqrfdm and look at the cluster queue managers, it shows that the channel to that queue manager is starting, however, it never starts. The only way to fix it is to stop and start the channel.

The annoying part if this is since MQ does not report the channel as starting (only amqrfdm), the situation I created in Tivoli is useless. Has anyone ever come across anything like this? I did not have the time to collect all of the repository dumps needed for a PMR this time, but plan to in the future if it happens again.

Is somebody stopping the destination queue manager without removing (suspending) it from the cluster beforehand?

Would this question be better off in the cluster forum?

Yeah, sorry, I should have put it in Clustering.

I suppose that it's possible that the queue manager was stopped, I'll have to go through the logs to see. Is there a reason you ask? Even if it were stopped, shouldn't MQ report the channel as starting without having to look at amqrfdm?

this sounds like one of the old bugs where cluster channel would not start when a msg was put to the a cluster queue.
what release and maint level are you on? that sort of bug has not been reported for some time now

I have seen this type of behavior happen when the FR had a reference to a channel that no longer existed for the PR.

We are currently on 6.0.2.2.

The channel definitely exists because I can either stop it status(inactive) or just start it back up and the messages drain instantly.

Remove the qmgr from the cluster, and add it back.

Also apply 6.0.2.6.

The queue manager that it was not starting on was the FR. Are you saying remove the sender or receiver.

We are currently moving to 6.0.2.5.

So the FR's definition of the autodef'd clussdr of a PR is bad.

So remove the PR from the cluster - unsharing everything in proper order and then put it all back.

This ended up happening again, and I was able to capture all of the information needed to open a PMR before restarting the channel. It turns out to be a defect that was fixed in 6.0.2.3. Looks like the patching will have to happen a little faster...

Thanks for the replies.
