I understand that MQ is not certified on Vista. But Vista has compatibility modes for both installation of products and operation of installed applications. As I understand it, a user could install and operate MQ 7.0 in compatibility mode for Windows XP Professional.
Has anybody tried doing this? I'm having a devil of a time finding a laptop with XP Pro - HP had it 2 weeks ago but now will no longer supply it. |

I've got MQ7 running on my other (Dell) laptop under Home Premium. Took a little ingenuity but nothing serious. Not exercised it really; a little hobby development with the new callback feature but seems ok.

I got one off the shelf (using it to type this!). No one will supply XP Pro, but Dell, HP & Toshiba all offer "downgrade" options to turn a Vista supplied machine into XP Pro.
Or they do here in the UK anyway.

Also not strictly true. MQ7 is certified for Vista Enterprise & Ultimate. But who'd use Vista from choice anyway?

I see on the Microsoft Vista home page that there are 4 Vista versions
Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate.
I guess what you call "enterprise" is Vista Business (in the UK?)
Anyway, the laptops all (virtually) come with Vista Home Premium factory installed.
The website indicates that it would cost $159 to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. MQ7 is apparently certified on Ultimate. Maybe I should start thinking Linux.[/list] |

| I bought a Dell Vostro laptop with XP pro installed with Vista supplied (rather than the reverse). Costs £10 extra. |

I thought "Enterprise" was just the multi-seat license of Business? Still, who cares?

True, and quite possible, though this Toshiba came with a free downgrade(which I will admit I had to do myself, but how hard is putting a CD in a drive and waiting an hour?)
As I said I've got MQ7 running on Home Premium apparently successfully (though obviously unsupported). My views on the desirsability of Linux (or the undesirability of Windoze) are well recorded on this forum!
