A limit of max queue depth has been passed down to me over the years of 640k on AIX. I recently had a requirement to send 990,000 msgs and I looked to see if we had upgraded to V6 of MQ to see if it could handle the load. I noticed that on AIX we had not upgraded but did some research and saw the max queue depth on 5.3 (which is our AIX version) is 999,999,999. What version of MQ (specifically on AIX) did the max queue depth rise above 640,000? Did the max go from 640,000 directly to the 999,999,999 max in one release?

max queue depth is an attribute of a local queue. It only indicates how many messages (of whatever length) may be mqput into the queue.

max message length attribute of a queue indicates the maximum length of a message that may be mqput into the queue.

I think GRIFF knows what the attributes mean. He is asking when the 999,999,999 limit came to be. In older versions (before my time) it apparently was lower than 999,999,999.

GRIFF,
You'll fine previous versions of the manuals here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/library/
going back to 2.1. The answer is buried in there somewhere.
