To simulate a big cluster you do not need many qmgrs, just multiple CLUSRCVRs on each qmgr. I have set up a cluster with 15 qmgrs and 200 CLUSRCVRs each, and it acts like a cluster of 3000 qmgrs.

Thanks for this info!
In our case, some of the QMs were also hosting Cluster Qs..so this wouldn't have simulated our whole cluster (we still could have used it to simulate the ones not hosting the Cluster Qs). This is a new technique I learnt. As Vitor famously says, "we never stop learning at mqseries.net"!

| What about if you are using clustering and the round robin distributed workload feature? Wouldn't it make sense to have many queue managers on a machine rather than one? |

And what do you want to do with load balancing when your machine crashes?
Usually the point of load balancing is to share load. If the load is all on the same machine and your resources are maxed out how is that going to help you?

IBM recommends that u should not have more than 100 Q's /Qmgr.. thats why..
but off-late things started changing.. and every TL and Architect started playing with the robustness that MQ provides (nobody thought of the consequences then) and in no time they reached 256 clusters limit on the repository Qmgr and 1 or 2 other heavily used legacy Qmgrs fast-on-heels, reaching the same limit..  
And now a new problem of moving the Q's from heavily used Qmgrs to others..
Besides there are many other bottle necks tht comeup if ur using a single Qmgr/Queues for multiple applications or users.. its good if u have developed ur own routing programs or else its difficult to control the switching of Q's by testers and developers.
And when things get really complicated.. its a nightmare for a tester to test.. and everyone out there would be knowing about the sort of pressure you would be under to resolve the issue immidiatly.
