Thanks everyone for your input. We had to use the trace to figure out what exact fields were required. The doc doesn't say which fields are required and also some fields that are required are actually marked as "optional". This is the feedback I'm requesting from IBM.
1. No documentation on what fileds are required in the SAPIDocControlRecord.
2. The SAPIDocControlRecord DataObject created from the EMD wizard for SAP marks the fields as optional.
3. The Recoverable Exception from Message Broker does not return the name of the fields missing, but a java error.

  1. Don't request that information from IBM.
    Ask your SAP ALE specialist.
  2. Anyway disregard any settings from IBM. If the relevant SAP needed fields are not filled in, and they change depending on partner type etc... the IDOC may not post. IBM needs to be able to handle the structure regardless of the partner type. So you may have a bunch of fields marked as optional but that in your case (ALE) will be mandatory...
  3. This is right. Again as the fields attributes change depending on the IDOC partner configuration in SAP how would the Adapter know which combinations are (SAP) illegal?? The adapter looks at the metadata of the structure. If a field is optional in one configuration it has to be optional in all of them...
You need to develop this with the help of your friendly SAP ALE/IDOC expert...
