I'm trying to install MQv6.0 on a CentOS v5.1 VM Image and get this error:

rpm –ivh gsk7bas-7.0-3.15.i386.rpm

error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++.so.5 is needed by gsk7bas-7.0-3.15.i386
libstdc++.so.5(CXXABI_1.2) is needed by gsk7bas-7.0-3.15.i386
libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2) is needed by gsk7bas-7.0-3.15.i386

I see I have /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8 and /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6

Three questions:
1) How do I fix this?
2) Do I want to fix this only to encounter more problems installing DB2 v8.2 and Message Broker v6.0 with fixpacks?
3) If 2 is true, what's my next best alternative?

I do not see CentOS on this page: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/requirements/index2.html

Yes, you assume the risk of further problems if you install on an unsupported platform.

Your particular error says that you need to install an earlier version of glibc.

I would echo what Jeff said about risking future problems.

However just for reference there is a great tool for sorting out problems like this.

go to www.rpmfind.net and you can search for files, and it will give a list of packages that supply them.

For example for your libstdc++.so.5 problem:

http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=+libstdc%2B%2B.so.5&submit=Search+...

Should help you find a package that can supply the right libraries. But of course your OS is not supported so even if you do get it running, you probably won't get any help from IBM if things go badly wrong! So do not use this for a production system!

In answer to 3) go get one of the linux distros listed on the support page
e.g. at this moment in time:

Quote:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) V3.0 with Update 2;
RHEL V4.0;
RHEL V5.0;
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) V8 with Service Pack (SP) 3;
SLES V9 with SP1 or later;
SLES V10 with SP1 or later;
NLPOS9 FP1
IRES V2
