Hi Guys,

I just heard that you can have more than one queue manager names identical in a single cluster. Is it possible?

The reason being told me is that because MQ Cluster treat Queue Manager based on its ID i.e. Queue Manager ID.

I'm not convinced by this. Is it possible?

Thank you so much in advance for your input.

Warm Regards,

It's entirely possible to do.

It's entirely possible to run over your wife with your car, as well.

I would highly recommend that you do neither.

Dear Jefflowrey,

First of all, thanks a lot for your quick response.

I like your answer. Of course, you don't want to ruin yourself. Isn't it?

Warm Regards,

It's a very very very very very bad idea to put two qmgrs with the same name in the same cluster.

More things will break than you think.

I would have said "find a gas leak with a match", but I've been divorced a few years now so maybe that's changed my perception.

Allow me to concur that attempting this is as close to suicide as you can get by just typing, and any requirement that even calls for this should be pushed back as insane.

As should the guy who told you it was possible. My assumption is he doesn't like you very much....

If you have two queue managers with the same name in a cluster, separating them, if you decide to do so at some future date, will become an interesting problem.

This presuposes the cluster starts working as you expect in the first place.

On a different note let me make a little but very important distinction there:
It is possible to have 2 qmgrs with the same name in an HA (OS level Cluster).
It is suicide to have the same in an MQ Cluster.

Even in an HA Cluster only one (max) of the qmgrs with the same name is active at any time.

Enjoy

They're really "the same" queue manager. They aren't "different queue managers with the same name".

Agreed. It is just the different parts of that same qmgr live on different hardware, making it look to the uneducated like 2 qmgrs...

Note that the DATA file systems are shared between the 2 hardwares...
